MOA, MIL, and Clicks: How It Works

The MOA (minute of angle) and the MIL (milliradian) are two units of angle used to adjust a rifle scope. Since they represent angles, the distance they cover increases as the target gets farther away.

• 1 MOA ≈ 2.91 cm at 100 m (and therefore approximately 5.82 cm at 200 m, 8.73 cm at 300 m).
• 1 MIL = 10 cm at 100 m, or 1 cm for every 10 m of distance.
• One click of the turret adjusts the reticle by a fraction of a unit: most often 1/4 MOA (0.25 MOA) or 0.1 MIL.

To correct your point of impact, measure the deviation between your group of shots and the center of the target, enter the distance, and the calculator will give you the exact number of clicks to adjust the turret (elevation or windage).

Real-world example

Your shots are 12 cm too low at 100 m, with a scope set to 1/4 MOA. The correction is about 4.1 MOA, which is roughly 16 to 17 clicks upward. The calculator above performs the calculation for any distance.
