The manuals are optimistic. Community data provides more conservative figures: 4,000 rounds for a 9×19 competition pistol (CZ Shadow 2, Prodigy), 5,000 for a polymer service pistol (Glock, PDP), and 3,000 for heavy use with high-power ammunition. Check Without Disassembling: The Simple Method
Compare a new spring with the old one side by side: if the free length has decreased by more than 5%, replace it. Another reliable indicator: if the cases now drop to less than one meter when they used to go two meters, the slide velocity has dropped. Record each replacement in the weapon’s maintenance log along with the current odometer reading.
